This tree native to the West Coast was planted in 1933 or 1934 at the Browse Experiment Station. It may be the only one to survive of its cohort planted in the valley. Its cousin, the General Sherman tree, is also a survivor at over 2,000 years old and over 200 feet tall. To protect the famed giant sequoia from the KNP Complex Fire in 2021, they wrapped its trunk in foil.
